Young-Gyun Kim Research Interest
My research interest is in understanding the evolution of sedimentary basins and their response to sediment load over time. The approach to this problem is made through comparison between observational data consisting of marine heat flow in the Ulleung Basin and model results obtained from simple continental extension and pull-apart opening.
In particular, I hope to address its subsiding history in response to sediment load with using thermo-mechanical models. Previously collected seismic profiles and gravity data together with on-going acquisition of heat flow data can be important constraints. In addition, I am also interested in developing instrumentation to measure temperature and heat flux such as violin-bow type heat probe and long-term heat flow monitoring system moored on the seafloor.

Research Interest
My research interest is understanding how subduction zone starts and evolves through observations of geophysical properties such as gravity, seismic and heat flow. In particular, the comparison of gravity anomaly in several subduction zones shows that there is a big difference between mature and immature ones. Such difference emphasizes the importance of observational data for the modeling of subduction system.
Therefore, the ultimate purpose of my researches is in making more realistic model of subduction zone within observational constraints.
